Bath Abbey Concert Series: Royal Academy Soloists

Royal Academy Soloists

Type: Performance

Enjoy an evening with the Sainsbury’s Royal Academy Soloists, a string ensemble of fourteen players from the Royal Academy of Music, selected by audition and directed by Clio Gould.

The Royal Academy Soloists are the rising stars of the musical world, and perform across the UK. Their recent concerts have included appearances at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall and Kings Place as well as Spitalfields, Norfolk & Norwich and Bury St Edmunds Festivals.

Clio Gould enjoys a varied career as a violinist, and performs as soloist, director and leader throughout Britain and Europe. In 2002, Clio became the first female leader of a symphony orchestra in London following her appointment as leader of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. She currently holds the position of principal violin of the London Sinfonietta.

Their Bath Abbey concert will include Benjamin Britten's 'Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge', the composer's moving tribute to his teacher, friend and mentor, and the work that catapulted Britten onto the international music scene. They will also be performing Elgar’s moving Serenade for Strings, and Vaughan Williams’ Concerto Accademico in D minor for violin and strings.
